6/12/2023 0 Comments Fangirl the manga vol 3I am so glad to be back with these characters and back into their world. I cannot wait to read the next one since this one ends on such a cliffhanger!Ī book that constantly has me smiling from every page. Overall, this was such a warm and heartfelt read. Generally, I prefer chapters in manga to avoid it feeling like one long scene. Since this manga doesn’t use chapters, it helped separate different parts of the story. I liked that the manga followed in the book’s footsteps and used snippets from the Simon Snow books and Cath’s fan fiction. The illustrator did a phenomenal job conveying all of Cath’s emotions. The illustrator specializes in black and white manga style and that is very evident. It has those cozy vibes that makes you want to read this while curled up with a blanket and a hot beverage. It feels like such a comfort read, probably because the book is set during the fall/winter. If I could use one word to describe this book it would be cozy. I am familiar with the story so I was able to read and understand this volume without having read volume 1. However, I have read Fangirl, the novel that this is based upon, and have always been curious about this manga adaptation. I received a copy of this book for free for promotional purposes.įull disclosure: I have not read volume 1 of this manga. I would recommend anyone, with a spark of humanity, sit down and watch this film. If Mr Dabell found the film boring, maybe he should look to himself, maybe it's because Mr Dabell is a boring person. The film was true to the book and (what's more important in my eyes) true to the spirit of the times about which the book was written. Where to? Certain death obviously, so any talk of digging tunnels, forging papers and planning escape routes (a la The Great Escape) were a complete waste of time. Feelings that I'm sure were felt by the actual inmates of such prisons back in those days. I do remember the feeling of utter hopelessness, of futility coming through in the film. It made such an impact on me that I have never forgotten it I have tried to get a copy for many years, alas without success. Dabell could complain about the film being boring with, as he puts it, "sparse stretches with barely any dialogue and barely any events begin to tire the viewer." What did Mr Dabell expect? A series of comic sketches, interspersed with some witty banter as the inmates hopped and skipped their way through the snow to their place of work? I saw the film back in the 70s and have not seen it since. This is not a review (as such) about Ivan Denisovich, more a counter to the comments made by a previous reviewer. 6/11/2023 0 Comments Trusting Skylar by Susan StokerThere is no novel out there like this, it is pure magic.
